Homemade Baked Beans are a delightful side dish that brings warmth and comfort to any meal. These beans are slow-cooked in a rich, sweet, and tangy sauce that perfectly complements grilled meats, hearty burgers, or can stand alone as part of a vegetarian feast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 slices raw turkey bacon
  • 1 medium onion (minced)
  • 31 ounces Great Northern Beans (2 cans – one drained and rinsed, one undrained)
  • 3/4 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1/3 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1 tablespoon mustard powder
  • 1 tablespoon vegan Worcestershire sauce substitute
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and spray an 8 x 8-inch baking dish with cooking spray.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook turkey bacon until crispy; drain on paper towels. Sauté minced onion in the same pan until soft.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine cooked onion, crumbled bacon, both cans of beans, barbecue sauce, brown sugar, ketchup, molasses, mustard powder, Worcestershire sauce substitute, garlic powder, pepper, and salt. Mix well.
  4. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and cover with foil. Bake for 2 hours; then remove foil and stir gently. Bake uncovered for an additional 10 minutes.
