  • 1 head cabbage
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup cooked rice (white or brown)
  • 28 oz can crushed tomatoes
  • 15 oz can tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1/2 onion (diced)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon apple vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley (chopped)
  • 1 egg

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of water to boil. Remove the core from the cabbage and cook until outer leaves are tender (8-10 minutes). Peel off softened leaves.
  2. In another pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Sauté diced onion until translucent, then add minced garlic. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, seasonings, and let simmer.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, cooked rice, onion powder, garlic, spices, parsley, and egg until mixed well.
  4. Lay a cabbage leaf flat and place about 2-3 tablespoons of filling at the base. Roll tightly from bottom to top.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Spread some tomato sauce in a baking dish; arrange rolls seam-side down and cover with remaining sauce. Bake for about 90 minutes.
