  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons black pepper
  • 1/2 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1/2 tablespoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 garlic clove (minced)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground mustard
  • 1 tablespoon liquid smoke

Instructions

  1. Mix salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, cayenne pepper, and minced garlic in a small bowl to create the dry rub.
  2. Trim excess fat from the beef shoulder and apply the dry rub evenly on all sides.
  3. In another bowl, combine brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, paprika, ground mustard, and liquid smoke for the cooking liquid.
  4. Place the seasoned beef in the slow cooker and pour the cooking liquid over it.
  5. Cover and cook on low heat for at least 8 hours until tender.
  6. Once done, shred the beef using forks and serve it according to your preference.
