  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups cake flour (sifted)
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons cinnamon
  • pinch of nutmeg
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 1 3/4 cups sugar
  • 4 large eggs (at room temperature)
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 1/4 cups milk
  • 1 1/2 cups (3 sticks) unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 4 cups confectioners’ sugar (sifted + extra as needed)
  • 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • pinch of salt
  • blueberries (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and line muffin tins with paper liners. Place a few blueberries in each cup.
  2. Sift together all-purpose flour, cake flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a bowl.
  3. In a stand mixer, beat unsalted butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in maple syrup and vanilla.
  4. Gradually combine the dry ingredients with the wet mixture, alternating with milk until just blended.
  5. Fill muffin liners three-fourths full and bake for about 20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool on wire racks.
  6. For frosting, beat remaining butter until lightened, then gradually add confectioners’ sugar, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and salt until fluffy.
  7. Frost cooled cupcakes generously and garnish with additional blueberries.
