  • 2 (10 oz each) cans condensed french onion soup
  • 1 (10 oz) can condensed beef broth
  • 10 oz reduced sodium beef broth
  • 2 cups long grain white rice (uncooked)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (cut into slices)
  • 1 medium yellow onion (diced)
  • 3/4 lb. ground beef
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 8 oz sliced mushrooms
  • 1/4 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 Tbsp reduced sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 23 oz French's fried onions (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef and diced onions until cooked through.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked beef mixture with the soups, broth, uncooked rice, garlic powder, black pepper, mushrooms, thyme, soy sauce, and Worcestershire sauce.
  4. Transfer the mixture to a greased 9×13 inch baking dish and dot with slices of butter.
  5. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and sprinkle cheese on top; bake uncovered for an additional 15 minutes until golden.
