  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 medium onion (diced)
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 28 ounces canned diced tomatoes
  • 8 ounces tomato sauce
  • 2 ½ cups cooked rice
  • 1 head green cabbage (chopped)
  • Fresh parsley and dried dill for seasoning

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and butter a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large frying pan, brown the ground beef with diced onion and minced garlic over medium heat until no pink remains. Drain excess fat.
  3. Stir in tomato sauce, canned diced tomatoes, parsley, dill, salt, pepper, and bay leaf; simmer for 10 minutes. Remove bay leaf and mix in cooked rice.
  4. In another pan, heat olive oil and sauté chopped cabbage until tender-crisp.
  5. Layer half of the cabbage in the baking pan, followed by half of the meat mixture. Repeat layers ending with meat on top.
  6. Bake uncovered for 25-30 minutes until hot and bubbly.
