Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips (optional)
  • 1/2 cup crushed peppermint candies or candy canes
  • 24 peppermint-striped chocolate kisses

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In another bowl, cream softened butter with granulated and brown sugars until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in egg, vanilla extract, and milk until well combined.
  5. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until a smooth dough forms; fold in mini chocolate chips if desired.
  6. Scoop out dough into 1-inch balls and place on prepared baking sheets about 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 8-10 minutes until edges are set; centers should be slightly puffed but still soft.
  8. Gently press one peppermint kiss into the center of each cookie as soon as they come out of the oven.
  9. Sprinkle crushed peppermint candies on top while cookies are still warm.
  10. Allow cookies to cool for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
