  • ½ cup water
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 4 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter (for brushing on rolls after baking)

Instructions

  1. Heat milk and water until warm (110-115°F). Combine in a stand mixer bowl.
  2. Add sugar and sprinkle yeast over the mixture; let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  3. Mix in salt, egg, and flour on low speed, then add butter until fully incorporated.
  4. Knead with a dough hook on low speed for about 8 minutes until smooth.
  5. Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm area for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
  6. Shape into rolls and place in a greased baking dish; cover and let rise for another 20 minutes.
  7. Bake at 375°F for 19-23 minutes until golden brown. Brush with melted butter after baking.
