  • 2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar
  • 3 teaspoons avocado oil
  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20)
  • 6 ounces shredded Swiss cheese
  • 6 thick slices rye bread
  • Coarse salt and freshly cracked pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Caramelize the onions: In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add sliced onions and salt; cover and cook for about 35 minutes, stirring occasionally until deeply browned. Deglaze with apple cider vinegar.
  2. Prepare the patties: Form ground beef into three large patties, season generously with salt and pepper.
  3. Cook the patties: Heat a griddle over medium-high heat. Cook patties for about 3 minutes per side until desired doneness.
  4. Assemble the melts: Butter each slice of rye bread, layer cheese and onions on top of cooked patties, then cover with another slice of bread.
  5. Toast: Cook on the griddle until golden brown on both sides and cheese is melted.
