  • 1 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup cold butter, cut into small cubes
  • 4 cups peeled, chopped fresh apples
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for apple filling)
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 12 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C), and line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour, oats, sugars, salt, and cinnamon. Cut in cold butter until crumbly.
  3. Set aside 1½ cups of crumb mixture for topping; press the rest into the pan and bake for 10–12 minutes until lightly golden.
  4. Toss apples with cornstarch, lemon juice, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg; spread over baked crust and top with reserved crumbs.
  5. Bake for an additional 30–35 minutes until bubbly and golden on top.
  6. Cool completely before slicing and serving.
